Bokoblin

Brutish scavengers who swarm in packs to serve the Calamity's dark will.

Bokoblins are the ubiquitous, goblin-like foot soldiers that swarm across Hyrule's landscapes in service to Ganon. Far from being mindless beasts, they range from scrawny, blue-skinned scavengers to hulking, red-armored brutes, each distinguished by wild tribal markings and a chaotic demeanor. As the primary grunts of the Calamity, they occupy camps, hoard resources, and relentlessly harass travelers with crude weapons and unpredictable tactics.

Lore & Background

Born from the corruption of Malice, Bokoblins are Ganon's engineered cannon fodder, evolving alongside Moblins and Lizalfos to serve as endless infantry. In eras where the Calamity rises, they spill from the shadows into abandoned villages and natural strongholds. They operate under a brutal, color-coded hierarchy: larger individuals with distinct horns or vibrant skin command smaller ones, directing raids and managing food stores. Their adaptability is terrifying; they craft makeshift armor from monster parts, ride boars and wolves into battle, and utilize campfires to cook meat, turning survival into a tactical advantage. Yet, their courage is fragile—when leaders fall or superior power appears, the pack scatters in disarray.

In Their Own Story

The wind howled through the crumbling stone archway as a campfire crackled, casting long, dancing shadows against mossy walls. A blue Bokoblin sat on a log, clumsily turning a skewer of raw meat over the flames, its yellow eyes darting nervously toward the dark treeline. Suddenly, a red leader stomped into view, slamming a heavy wooden club onto the ground to silence the chatter. The smaller goblin flinched, dropping its food and scrambling to attention as a low growl rumbled from the brute's throat. With a jagged spear pointed toward the path where a traveler might soon appear, their tribal scars seemed to pulse with a faint, malice-tainted glow in the flickering light—marking them as eternal enemies of peace.

Reader's Guide

Bokoblins serve as the foundational infantry for Ganon's forces across nearly every timeline. Their goal is simple: expand the Calamity's influence by eliminating threats and securing resources. They operate in loosely organized packs, typically led by a dominant individual distinguished by size or coloration (such as Blue, Red, Black, or Silver). While individually weak, their numbers can overwhelm lone heroes; however, they are easily routed if their leaders are defeated.
