Lore & Background

In the wake of the Calamity, Hyrule twisted into a hostile wasteland where Malice spawned monsters from the very soil. With the populace scattered or lost, Sheikah elders intervened to save the kingdom's last hope: placing Link within the Shrine of Resurrection to suspend his life in time, while Princess Zelda remained at Hyrule Castle maintaining the seal with her power. For a century, the land held its breath under a shroud of gloom, sustained only by the fading light of the seal. The Calamity proved more than a military defeat; it was a spiritual collapse where an ancient hatred refused to be buried.

In Their Own Story

The wind howled through the shattered pillars of Hyrule Castle, carrying with it the scent of ozone and decay. Beneath the stone floor, a dark purple mist pulsed like a living heart, feeding on the lingering despair of a kingdom forgotten by time. Somewhere in the distance, a mechanical bird let out a mournful cry, its gears rusted from decades of disuse, while the shadow of a massive beast loomed over the ruins, waiting for the day the seal would finally break.

Reader's Guide

Calamity Ganon erupted from his prison beneath Hyrule Castle, unleashing chaos across the realm. The Sheikah rushed the four Divine Beasts into service as countermeasures, but Ganon corrupted their pilots—the Champions Mipha, Daruk, Revali, and Urbosa—turning the kingdom's greatest weapons against it. With its defenders fallen, the monster army swept through Hyrule.

Princess Zelda struggled to contain the Malice with her sealing power while Link fought desperately beside her. Mortally wounded during the final stand, Link was preserved in the Shrine of Resurrection by Sheikah technology. Zelda managed to seal Ganon within the castle, but at the cost of her own freedom; she held the seal alone for a century.

When Link finally awakened with no memory, he began the journey to retake the Divine Beasts. Liberating each beast weakened Ganon's grip on Hyrule Castle. In the final confrontation, Link faced the Calamity within the ruins, where Zelda's enduring power allowed them to shatter the seal and restore peace.
